What to Expect

What to expect during a day in Third Grade!

First, expect to be greeted at the door with a handshake from the teacher.

Our day will always start with breakfast and a special time to celebrate the day. Each morning is centered around a theme: Motivation Monday, Tell me something good Tuesday, Wonderful Wednesday, and Thankful Thursday.

Expect to experience Language Arts as our morning routine.  We will be learning CAFE: Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expand Vocabulary.
This is a program where learners will be taught in the areas that they are weak in.  They will meet with me individually, and they will learn with the whole class, small groups, and on their own as they practice silent sustained reading.

In the afternoon we will learn math through the Eureka Math.  This curriculum uses manipulatives and a variety of strategies to learn third grade math standards. A Quiz during the middle of the module and a test at the end of the module will be given.  Each module lasts around a month.

Social Studies and History will be studied in rotating two week blocks.  We will be participating in experiments and doing activities that will help us learn the standards from these classes.  Also, expect an occasional project and test or quiz.

Another  routine that you can expect is Reteach and Enrich.  We will concentrate on Reading and work with the learners based upon their skill set.

Homework is given on a weekly basis.  It will be distributed on Monday and collected on the following Monday.  Finished homework will result in extra credit points.

Finally, expect to end the day on a positive note with a short story, poem, or class cheer.
