Desert Oasis Site Council
 
Purpose

The purpose of the Site Council is to bring the Desert Oasis community and school closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve difficult education problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the school-based decision-making process.

 

The establishment of the School Site Council is intended to help develop and nurture participation, bring parents and the community together with teachers and school administrators to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other's concerns, and share ideas for school improvement. The Site Council shall be reflective of the school community.

The purpose of the Site Council is to set school wide goals, martial resources, and monitor the results annually.

 

The Site Council shall provide advice, recommendations, and assistance to the school administration. The Site Council represents the community of parents, teachers and businesses.

 

The members of the Site Council are accountable to the constituents they serve and shall:

 
  1. Maintain a school-wide perspective on issues,
  2. Regularly participate in school council meetings,
  3. Act as a link between the school council and the community
  4. Encourage the participation of parents, teachers, and others within the school community.
 

The Site Council shall provide advice and recommendations to the school principal in regards to the following:

  1. School calendar
  2. School codes for conduct and dress
  3. Curriculum, program goals, and priorities
  4. Preparation and distribution to the community of a school profile which shall contain data as identified by the Site Council to describe the academic performance, academic progress, services, awards, interventions, environment, and other such data as the Site Council deems appropriate
  5. School budget priorities, including school capital improvement plans
  6. School and community communication strategies
  7. Methods of reporting to parents and communities other than through the school profile
  8. Co-curricular activities in the school
  9. School based and community services
  10. Community use of school facilities
  11. Recommendations concerning school board policies
  12. Receiving and reviewing reports from the school principal regarding progress toward the school's student achievement goals.

Members

The Site Council is comprised of the following:

  1. The school principal
  2. Two certificated teachers, excluding any personnel employed in administrative positions, who are full time employees of the school
  3. One classified person
  4. Three parents/guardians or community members.  Parent representatives on the Site Council shall be elected by, and from among the group they represent.  Employees in the school who are also parents or guardians of students enrolled in the school are excluded from serving as parent representatives.
  5. The PTSA will have one representative on the Site Council appointed by the principal.
  6. One student

              Student – One member from student council will join the Site Council each month.
 

Please feel free to contact any of the above members to voice your concerns or regarding policies, school activities or curriculum.  We want to hear from you good or bad.  The Site Council meets monthly on the 3rd Wednesday of each month unless the school calendar dictates otherwise.  You are welcome to attend the meetings as they are open to the public, but it is at the discretion of the Site Council to ask participants to interact with the Site Council.  In addition, attendees who have students that attend Desert Oasis, or staff members of Desert Oasis will be permitted to speak if called upon.
